LATEST NEWS
The grants mentioned in our last edition have now been allocated and we are the proud possessors of a Panasonic 3000 projector along with a heavy-duty stand and a near cinema quality screen. We are now equipped to take a `Show on the Road' in addition to using it on club nights. We are now looking for the best deals in sound equipment. Our eyes are on a Surround Sound 5.1 and amplifier to replace our current elderly equipment.
The next purchase could well be a matching couple of cameras. Our current pair are both needing attention and may not be economically repairable.
Another highlight was the showing of the award winning videos from the international competition organised by the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers. The movies were of a very high standard and well deserved their awards.
Secretary Dave Rowland and Joy visiting Chairman John Hutchings (L) in hospital after his recent op. John’s wife Joan is the one with the beaming smile.
We are pleased to say that John is progressing well.
Further News
Congratulations are in order. The members produced a club movie: ‘Television - It’s Daylight Robbery’ and it won the regional video competition.  The staring actors were Andrew Williams, Dave Rowlands and Joy Keegan.
Based loosely on a film made way back in the sixties, the advances in movie making are obvious when the two movies are compared. The original was in black & white and on 8mm film stock.
Our members enjoy interacting with other movie clubs in the area. We have enjoyed the company of friends from the Devizes, Frome and West Wilts clubs and have benefited form their experience and expertise. (That’s a way of saying we pinched their ideas!)   The District competition was held in Chippenham this year and we enjoyed the variety of films they brought along.
There were three entries in this years Once only Cup.
Rob Catt was the winner with a film  called West Bay, Dorset. An interesting film about the lack of trains in that area. Andrew Williams and John Hutchings were the close runners up.
The pictures show Rob Catt (L) receiving the cup from John Sutton our treasurer.
